It is curtain call for the Dunedin Railway Station as restoration on the heritage building nears completion.

Workers have begun removing the fabric scrim masking the building, giving the public its first glimpse of the station.

The 1083sq m of scrim, which cost an estimated $38,000 for material, printing and installation, will be recycled.

Naylor Love construction manager Paul Stevenson said about 25% of the south end was visible at present.

Over the next couple of days, the shrink wrap on the back section would be removed.

Mr Stevenson said it would be at least a fortnight until the station itself became fully visible.
