Brighton ahead in race for IRB

The Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club is out in the front in the race to win a new $25,000 inflatable rescue boat (IRB), with just days to go in the competition.

The club was one of three South Island finalists selected in a competition run by BP to compete for a prize package including an inflatable rescue boat (IRB), outboard motor and trailer.

The winner will be determined by the highest number of votes and people can vote every day until the competition closes on Sunday, November 16.

As of Monday, the club had about 11,500 votes ahead of South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club in Christchurch which had about 9600.

President Nevan Trotter said if Brighton could win the boat it would be a community asset so he urged the community to get behind the competition.

Holidaymakers who enjoyed the beach should also vote for the club, he said.

People can vote and watch a short documentary about the club online at: www.clickforyourclub.co.nz.
