Budding writers from Silverstream School were recognised last month at the school's annual ''Pixie Plaque'' writing competition.
The competition began in 2000 at North Taieri School and was initiated by the local Hearn family with the goal of inspiring children to write.
Following the Mosgiel schools' restructuring in 2004 and North Taieri School's closure, the competition was revived by Silverstream School.
The competition's title is derived from the Hearn's Mosgiel property's name ''Pixie patch''.
The trophy made from a piece of native kauri the family owned that came from Palmerston North.
The year the school added another category to celebrate writers in the new entrant classes, recognising the ideas and stories they have but as yet cannot write them down themselves.
It was about fostering the desire to think, talk, write and have their story read by others.
