About 250 people donated blood at the University of Otago’s Union Hall yesterday.

It was microbiology honours student Caitlin Ewenson’s third time giving blood.

She thought it was a really cool way to give back.

"I just makes me feel good.

"It’s sort of nice to know that your blood’s being used."

She was good with needles — most of the time.

"I just have to look away because I do accidentally hold my breath sometimes and pass out."

Ms Ewenson donated 470ml of blood yesterday.

NZ Blood donor relations co-ordinator Linda Burt said they would be collecting blood at Union Hall today and tomorrow.

She encouraged people to drop by and donate.
