Otago prof wins book award

A Dunedin-based architect turned theologian has won a national book award.

University of Otago theology professor Murray Rae was honoured with the $10,000 Ashton Wylie Mind Body Spirit Literary Award at a ceremony in Auckland last night.

He won it for his book Architecture and Theology: The Art of Place.

Award convener of judges Adonia Wylie said the winning book was "a most timely literary work that will change the way we think of our built environment and how it affects us all".

"Upon reading this book, one can only regret that the sense of a harmonious, numinous and spiritually enhancing built environment has deserted us almost entirely."
