Community board to study clearing up Coast Rd confusion

Confusion caused by the doubling up of property numbers on Coast Rd between Evansdale and Karitane will be addressed this week

Following the introduction of the "rapid" numbering system some years ago, it was found 39 of the 109 properties on the Karitane section of Coast Rd had numbers that were duplicated elsewhere on Coast Rd outside the township.

On Wednesday, the Waikouaiti-Coast Community Board meeting at Waikouaiti will consider options to address the situation, including a change to the name of Coast Rd through Karitane which will allow the existing numbers to be retained, or changing the property numbering on Coast Rd within Karitane.

In a submission to the board, NZ Post regional contracts manager Mike Wyatt, of Dunedin, said number duplications for rural delivery customers were showing up.

There had been confusion over deliveries, where goods had been taken to wrong addresses.

He had also heard of instances where an ambulance or a doctor went to the wrong house, Mr Wyatt said.
