Dunedin city councillor Lee Vandervis has laid a complaint with the police against Allied Press over the publication of an Otago Daily Times article rating councillors' performance in the last term.
Cr Vandervis says the October 21 article breaches the 2001 Local Electoral Act by attempting to interfere with or influence voters in the process of voting in the local body elections.
His complaint was taken by police yesterday.
Police confirmed a complaint was received, but declined to comment further.
Cr Vandervis also referred his concerns to Dunedin electoral officer Pam Jordan, who said legal advice had been taken and she would not be lodging a complaint with the police.
ODT editor Murray Kirkness had no comment other than to say the company would wait for due process to take its course.
