Heated messages in a group chat led to two men showing up at another man’s Dunedin house where an assault took place, police say.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to Reid Rd, South Dunedin, at 7.48pm on Friday after a 22-year-old man was assaulted.
The assault followed an exchange of offensive social media messages in a group chat, Snr Sgt Bond said.
Following the online exchange, two men went to the victim’s home address and allegedly assaulted him.
Two 21-year-olds face charges of assault with intent to injure.
On Sunday, police received several calls about an assault at a property in Crown St, North East Valley, at 6am.
Police found a 22-year-old woman with signs of having been assaulted in nearby North Rd.
The woman told police there were up to five people at the Crown St address and several people had assaulted her.
A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman each face an assault charge.
