Pursuit ends after road spikes used

A Dunedin police pursuit ended after a man's car was stopped by spikes in Mosgiel late last night.

A police spokeswoman said the chase began at the intersection of Bayview Rd and Andersons Bay Rd, South Dunedin, at 11.09pm.

The car then drove through Caversham and was stopped in Mosgiel at 11.30pm when the vehicle was slowed by spikes deployed by police.

Police initially said the car was stopped in Caversham.

A 25-year-old male was arrested on Braeside, on the outskirts of Mosgiel, charged with careless driving, excess breath alcohol and failing to stop when followed.

The car was later towed.

He was expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
