Search for men who attempted ute theft

Police are hunting for two men seen breaking into a ute in the Dunedin suburb of Waverley yesterday morning.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said the men were disturbed about 4am by a member of the public.

They fled in a silver station wagon, possibly a Nissan.

Snr Sgt Dinnissen said one of the offenders was described as a European between 24 and 28 years of age, of medium height and build with stubble on his face, light brown hair cut short and wearing a blue or grey hoodie.

His accomplice was described as of medium height, a stocky build, wearing a black hoodie and a red brimmed hat.

Snr Sgt Dinnissen said a 1997 Toyota Corolla was stolen from St Clair the previous night.

On the same night, a 2007 Suzuki moped was stolen from around John Wilson Ocean Dr and Kettle Park Rd.

The following night, five cars were broken into in the area of Miller Rd, near Dunedin Airport.
