Woman charged with Work and Income threat

A woman has appeared in court and been granted bail after allegedly threatening to kill a Work and Income staff member in Dunedin.

The verbal threat prompted a lockdown of the department's central Dunedin office on Thursday, while police searched for the alleged offender.

The office, along with two other service centres in South Dunedin and Mosgiel, remained on restricted access for the rest of the day.

Jacinda Rangi-Marie Ngatahi Masadma Pennicott (28), a shed hand from Dunedin, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday charged with threatening to kill.

She was granted bail by Judge Michael Turner and did not enter a plea.

Pennicott will appear in court again in three weeks.

Threatening to kill carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment.

Nobody else was being sought by police and there were no fears for the safety of the public, Sergeant Blair Dalton said.
