A trio of companies has been chosen to carry out the design for work redeveloping George St.

Architecture practice Jasmax, infrastructure firm AECOM and Isaac Construction Ltd, all from Christchurch, have been granted the contract.

Dunedin City Council group manager transport Jeanine Benson said the scope of the work would be from Albany St to the north side of Moray Pl.

It would not go into the Octagon.

The three firms granted the contract make up what is called the "O3 Collective".

"The O3 Collective are continuing with stakeholder consultation which formally commenced early in 2019, and are working through the preliminary design and inground investigations," Ms Benson said.

The construction work in the area — home to a number of retail and hospitality businesses — was expected to begin early 2021, and would take about 24 months to complete.

She said the trial closure of the Octagon was a completely separate project to the George St redevelopment.

Im assuming as standard, being ratepayers, we won't be classed as a stakeholder that needs to be consulted

Just wondering does this meet all the requirements of this orginsation Local and regional governments across the ICLEI network are committed to building a sustainable urban future This is an international group pushing its ideas on Towns and Cities through out the Globe, Which Hawkins is on the Executive Committee for and has been for some time. I like a few didn't even know Dunedin embraced it I mean Hawkins. I guess this is why the policy adviser is required to push Dunedin's change through Very Quickly because Hawkins now knows he has one shot at this and will not get back in. Wake up Stand up Dunedin. Is any of the rate payers money getting siphoned off and given to this Company? either directly from the DCC or indirectly via Contractors. who get contractors or have to do re work.

There will be no further public consultation if any at all . This council is out of control and stopped listening to the ratepayers the day after they were all elected .The only councillor that is actually fighting for the ratepayer is Lee VanderVis .Its time the people stood up to the council and the bureaucracy that is gradually killing our city .A vote of no confidence should be given to Central government and an investigation into the overspending that is occurring within the council walls.
The letters to the paper is evidence the community is not happy, the failed attempt to pedestrianise the Octagon is also evidence that what they intend to do in George street will also fail .We are a small city of 130,000 people not like Brisbane, London,Amsterdam etc who can easily accommodate this type of change .

Well Said Mr T, 100% agree. All the Mayor does is smirk and says nothing like Cull did, They think people are fools and hope people get sick of complaining and go away. While he can gather brownie points with the ICLEI and Green Party. It appears that a lot of councillors have lost their voice since being voted in or are suffering the same problem of them not getting answers, Look at Last year, when Cr Vandervis never got answers from the CEO, Mayor and was sick of it, he was labeled a Bully for his troubles, From Memory the now Mayor at the time made a noise like a goat he is when CR Vandervis was talking and had to apologise. One Councillor last term, no longer a Councillor was all this and a bag of chips he could change Dunedin, as soon as he got in he said nothing and done little that councillors baby was St Clair. I'd gladly sign an on line petition to remove Hawkins from his seat, The unfortunate thing is how does one start the ball rolling?

Gggrrrr, this is so annoying! I voted for Vandervis because he was the only one who was going to put a stop to this stupid George St proposal.

The road CAN be kept two way and still have car parks with the right design, one waying it is a dumb move.

More cash (profits) leaving Dunedin...Cadburys demo also went to a Chch firm!

What happened to public consultation? I must have missed it.

Totally the wrong time to be doing anything like this. Our economy is about to go into meltdown, people are losing their jobs in droves, retailers are going to really struggle (if they weren't already) - and the DCC is spending money on streetscaping and reducing access to shops?! Come on - seriously, all except essential projects need to be put on delay until this crisis is over. Money will be needed for the community to survive and provide basic services and support. This is madness.
