Fees for all-day parking in Dunedin are set to rise.
Included in budgets for the Dunedin City Council’s 2023-24 draft annual plan approved for public consultation is a rise from $7 to $8 for sites such as the Thomas Burns car park in central Dunedin.
All-day on-street parking in an outer zone is set to move from $7 to $10.
The council said in a report for the draft annual plan proposed changes were aimed at encouraging use of off-street parking to free up on-street parking for shorter stays.
It was proposed a main street paid 30-minute parking restriction would be replaced by an unpaid 30-minute restriction.
Leased weekly parking at Thomas Burns and by the Dunedin Railway Station would move from $25 to $35.
Cr Andrew Whiley said at a meeting this week he was frustrated percentage increases for parking were well above increases for any other activities.
Cr Steve Walker said $8 remained cheap and he would like to see more "encouragement" for people to use alternative modes of transport to private motor vehicles.
The city council is to embark this year on a comprehensive review of parking policy.
Regulatory parking changes were suspended from May last year for about a year to ensure the council had capacity to work on a new parking strategy.
