Benedict Ong
Dunedin city councillor Benedict Ong has fallen well short in his bid to become a director on the board of media company NZME.
Cr Ong nominated himself for the position, which was considered at Wednesday’s annual shareholders’ meeting.
The motion to appoint Cr Ong was supported by 1.85% of votes.
The motion was opposed by 98.15% of votes.
The re-election of two incumbent directors was passed with 99.97% and 99.96% support.
Cr Ong did not directly respond to Otago Daily Times questions on the result or what he made of the margin.
He spoke in-person at the meeting, and told the ODT he intended to send proposals to the company in future.
