Dentures on Lotto winner’s wish list

A DUNEDIN Lotto winner who made a trip to the shop on Sunday morning in her fluffy tiger slippers to claim a $238,212 prize says she does not expect money to buy her happiness.

But she certainly expects things to change.

Life, she said, ‘‘hasn't been an easy ride'', and her plans for the money include a car that starts in the morning, some new false teeth and ‘‘a little piece of property''.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, discovered on Sunday morning she had won a Lotto first division prize.

After missing the live draw on Saturday night, the next morning she decided to check the ticket she bought at Moyles Supervalue in Green Island.

‘‘I waited until my husband had headed down to his shed, as he seems to be bad luck,'' she joked.

She checked the ticket against the numbers in the newspaper but did not believe her eyes.

She got her husband to check the numbers and ‘‘he told me to get dressed because we were going to the Lotto shop.''

‘‘I put some clothes on, but otherwise it was down to the shop with no make-up on - and in my fluffy slippers and all.''

Asked what she planned to do with the money, the woman said she had dropped her false teeth a couple of years ago, breaking a small piece.

‘‘Things kept coming up and I've never been able to replace them - until now.''

She did not own her own home and planned to stay put but wanted to buy some property, new clothes and a new car.
‘‘This really is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I've lived in second-hand clothes and have never had a car I could rely on to start in the morning, so this will certainly be changing my life.''
‘‘It hasn't been an easy ride home. It's been a struggle,'' she said of her life.

The woman, who picked her own numbers, said she had been buying tickets for about 22 years and the most she had won in the past was $75.
