Dunedin spatial plan to be 'tweaked'

Dunedin's spatial plan will be "tweaked" by city council staff before going back for final sign-off in about a month.

Mayor Dave Cull said during days of deliberation last week, councillors had considered submissions "page by page", and would now advise staff on the changes they wanted.

The spatial plan will put in place a vision for the city, dealing with issues including an expected extra 7600 residential units needed by 2031, the housing needs of an ageing population, rising oil prices, global warming, and the future of heritage buildings and character areas.

The draft plan attracted more than 100 submissions, which were heard mid-last month. Mr Cull said this week councillors had reached a consensus on the issues, and expected the final version of the plan to be ready for approval in about a month.
