"It’s quite fun. It’s good to collect stuff for people who probably don’t have much stuff," he added before sprinting off to collect more food gifts.
Mosgiel food and can appeal organiser and Mosgiel Community Foodbank co-ordinator Michelle Kerr said the public response to a tough year of Covid-19 disruption and soaring foodbank needs had been overwhelming in Mosgiel, Green Island and Abbotsford.
"It’s amazing. I’m really quite speechless," she said.
The generosity extended far beyond the about 300 food boxes collected last year, and counting was continuing at least an hour longer than last year.
The Dunedin food and can appeal is on Thursday evening.
