If you have been putting off setting your clocks forwards one hour for daylight saving, then rest assured - you are not the only one.

The clock on the most photographed landmark in New Zealand, the Dunedin Railway Station, has been running one hour behind since Sunday.

Dunedin City Council property services group manager Anna Nilsen said the clock was scheduled to be adjusted on Monday.

"But our contractor - who is also responsible for adjusting clocks at other heritage properties, including the Dunedin Municipal Chambers - was delayed while attending to more urgent work."

The clock mechanism at the Dunedin Railway Station dated back to the 1880s, and changing the time was specialised work.

The clock was expected to be adjusted and showing the correct time again by the end of today, Ms Nilsen said.

While the evenings will now be getting much lighter for longer, some people might have noticed their street looking a little dimmer than usual after street lights around Dunedin and Central Otago went temporarily out of action.

Aurora Energy customer and commercial services general manager Mark Pratt said the outage occurred while Aurora was conducting routine maintenance work on Tuesday.

During maintenance of its streetlight management software, an "unexpected error" occurred that affected street lighting across its Dunedin and Central Otago networks for 80 minutes.

Street lighting was restored at 8.30pm, Mr Pratt said.

"We are investigating why this happened and apologise to anyone who was impacted."
