After the success of a recent guided walk through Dunedin's warehouse district to mark World Heritage Day, the Southern Heritage Trust plans to double the number of its guided walks.
Forty people turned up for the trust-organised Sunday walk, near the Exchange, a week ago, despite only limited pre-publicity, a Southern Heritage trustee, Ann Barsby, said.
Ten people had also taken part in an annual Anzac heritage walk through the Northern Cemetery yesterday, she said.
The trust hoped to double the number of city walks it organised, to about a dozen a year, and would focus on various heritage-related themes, such as "Writers' Dunedin" and the warehouse heritage area.
It also planned to produce a brochure to promote the writer-themed walks.
The trust had been encouraged to expand its offerings because of the community's increasing interest in heritage, and the growing popularity of heritage walks, she said.
