University of Otago vice-chancellor Prof Harlene Hayne has been appointed to the Treasury's advisory board.
The Treasury's primary goal was to ''raise the living standards of all New Zealanders'' and the organisation was committed to including input from a wide range of experts in its policy advice to the Government, Prof Hayne said.
Given the valuable contribution that New Zealand's universities made to research in areas such as healthcare, education, social welfare and the environment, it was ''encouraging'' the Treasury had chosen to appoint a vice-chancellor to its board, she said.
Prof Hayne is a former head of the Otago University psychology department and jointly chairs a working party on Reducing Social and Psychological Morbidity during Adolescence, which reports to the Office of the Prime Minister.
