Olivia Buchanan-Letts (11) practises a Highland fling at home in Outram on Saturday before she attends the Balmoral Highland Dance summer school in Christchurch, which starts tomorrow.

The Taieri College year 7 pupil started Highland dancing when she was 4.

''I'm really excited about it. They'll help me perfect my techniques and dances,'' she said.

''The best bit about Highland dancing is learning all the new dances and making new friends.''

Olivia is taught by Lynette Mitchell in Mosgiel and said she would like to dance with the Highland Dance Company of New Zealand when she grows up.
