The Dunedin-made sleeping bag Sir Edmund Hillary used on the first ascent of Mt Everest will be displayed at a Mt Cook dinner next week organised to mark the 60th anniversary of his feat, on May 29, 1953.

The Fairydown ''20 Below'' down-filled bag, which will be a feature exhibit at the New Zealand Alpine Club dinner, was later signed by Sir Edmund. Sir Edmund and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first people to scale the 8848m mountain.
