Tim King just wants to go home.
The Calder St, St Kilda, resident has been left uncertain, ill and stressed by Dunedin's floods in June.
The villa he has rented for the past year was left sodden and Mr King was forced to move into a motel.
He soon had to move temporarily into a house in Waverley because of the cost of the motel.
''I just want the house back,'' the sickness beneficiary said.
After the floods, more than 1000 litres of water was pumped out from under the house - ''the next day the whole thing was filled up again''.
Mr King said he could not afford the ongoing transport costs from Waverley and his lease there would soon end.
He had paid nearly $1000 to store his belongings since the floods, which added to his anxiety.
''It's just a lot of stress at the moment,'' he said.
''I can't think straight really.''
Mr King had completed much of the work on the Calder St rental property himself to make it liveable - working on the waterlogged house from 8am until 7pm some days. But it was not yet at an acceptable standard, he said.
''I actually ended up in hospital [soon after the floods].''
''I just couldn't breathe.
''The house was so damp I would wake up in the morning and it was like being in the refrigerator.''
While the owner of the house had received insurance for damage to the property, Mr King received no payout for damage to its contents.
''I have got no insurance.''
''If I can afford it, I would get insurance ... But I can't afford it. I wish I could sometimes.''
Mr King hopes to move into the house soon - it is all he wants.
