Those on board are (from left): Jarvis Cross (New Zealand), Enda O’Coineen, Jack Densern (New Zealand), Katelyn Toomey (New Zealand), Sophie Woodhouse (New Zealand), Oliver Page (New Zealand), Pierre Tesson (France), Maxime Boy (France), Kelvin Cummings (New Zealand), Tony Cummings (New Zealand) and Peadar Gill (Ireland).
Last year, Mr O’Coineen’s yacht Kilcullen Voyager had to be towed back into the harbour after its mast broke in a strong squall, 180 nautical miles southeast of Dunedin, halfway through the Vendee Globe Race.
Last night, he unofficially re-entered the race and left the Port Chalmers Yacht Club on a two-month solo journey to the French port of Les Sables-d’Olonne.
He is sailing a French-designed 18m Imoca 60 specifically created for solo-sailing.
