The new, slim, trim Marty Kreft was a key member of Regan Larkin's Composite four that won the 25th annual Outram 2000 bowls tournament on Sunday.

Kreft had a stomach stapling operation two years ago and has reduced his weight by a remarkable 163kg and was one of the most energetic players on the green.

The other members of the team that won the $2000 winner's purse were Brendon Legg and Dave Hodges.

15th centre title proves elusive

Bowls Outram bowler Sue Hodges has to wait until next season to get her second Bowls Dunedin bar to add to her gold star.

Hodges has 14 centre titles and was hoping for a fifteenth in the champion of champions fours.

But the Outram team of Mary Stevenson, Anne Warrington-Blair, Hodges and Marion Hambleton lost to Green Island's Dianne Jackson, Gaynor Todd, Dorothy Burnard and Lyn Rance 22-19.
