The paddling pool at Dunedin's Woodhaugh Gardens is fenced off while contractors search for the cause of apparent leaks.

The concrete pool lies empty over winter and when it was refilled this week, following painting, several leaks were discovered, Dunedin City Council parks operations officer Richard Dahlenburg said.

The pool is usually open by Labour Weekend.

Further investigation was needed to work out the best way to repair the leaks, he said.

The pool's reopening date would not be known until the problem and a solution had been ascertained.

It was hoped it would be open again by early next month.
