As temperatures touched 30°C in Dunedin yesterday, the city’s beaches were very popular.

Strong northwesterly foehn winds also pushed the mercury to the high 20s in Oamaru, Alexandra and Gore, and the low to mid-20s everywhere else in Otago and Southland.

Temperatures were expected to remain in the 20°C-30°C range for much of the southern regions for the first half of this week, before dropping below 20°C later in the week.
