Sun Princess was due to arrive in Port Chalmers on Saturday. It is now scheduled to arrive on October 13.
Enterprise Dunedin director John Christie said while it was not unusual for ships at the start of season to change schedules due to weather conditions, it was inconvenient for businesses.
``I am aware that it does have an impact on them, particularly if they have put on more staff.''
Travel Trade and sales marketing operator Gil Abercrombie said the cruise ship would complete its voyage in reverse, starting in the Bay of Islands on Saturday.
In 2012, the same cruise ship cancelled its visit to Dunedin for unknown reasons.
The Sun Princess would still be the first cruise ship of the season.
A record 96 cruise ships are scheduled to visit this season.
The next scheduled visit to Dunedin is the Noordam on November 2.
