
Otago Boys’ rector Richard Hall said the gesture was a part of the Global Illuminations campaign, which included more than 90 prominent landmarks and buildings across the country.
It brought attention to the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, which will be held on Friday and Saturday.
The appeal raised funds for research, education and patient support.
The Shand Building to the right of the tower block is covered in scaffolding as work is under way for its refurbishment.
Ministry of Education capital works southern programme manager Sharon Wong said the update was progressing within the allocated budget. It was expected to be completed ahead of term 1 next year.
The scope of the project included seismic strengthening, weathertightness upgrades, internal fit-out and reconfiguration, and the development of a new music facility.
A new lift and modifications to improve accessibility were also part of the works.
The 1914 building was saved by a $3million ministry grant in 2020. It is being redeveloped as the school’s music and performing arts centre.
