Man allegedly left three children at home alone

Police and Child, Youth and Family will speak to a Dunedin man after he allegedly left his three children home alone on Wednesday.

Police were called to the address after a member of the public reported the children, aged 11, 10 and 6, appeared to be home by themselves.

The children were moved from the Caldwell St, Brockville, house at 9pm and placed in the care of CYF, Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said.

The children indicated their father had been out since about 4.30pm.

The 41-year-old man contacted police at 2.15am yesterday after allegedly coming home to find his children missing.

Snr Sgt Aitken said the incident was a reminder parents needed to ensure there was adequate care in place for their children should they wish to go out in the evening.
