Athletics Taieri convener Rob Urquhart says there were 40 participants last year, but that had since fallen to about 20 and he wants to encourage more involvement in the club's many activities.
''I've been a runner since I was 10.
''It's just taken me to some amazing places, really. My life has been very satisfying.''
He is well aware that ''there are so many people who run or walk round Mosgiel''.
And he wants more of them to get involved with Athletics Taieri.
''The benefits of running in a group are just tremendous. We try to have a bit of fun along the way.''
The club has excellent facilities at Memorial Park and successful fundraising efforts mean the club is financially sound, he says.
A former president of Athletics Otago and Athletics Taieri, Mr Urquhart (68) has been a keen runner throughout his life.
He comes from a family of runners and says running had brought him many benefits, including continuing good health and fitness, and clear mental focus.
Athletics Taieri catered for runners, joggers and walkers, the latter going for regular walks on Saturday afternoons.
And to encourage greater participation, the club was offering a year's free membership to new adult members, he said.
He wants to boost membership in all age groups and would like to develop closer links with Taieri High School.
Participants in the club not only improved their athletic performance, but also benefited from taking part in shared social activities, he said.
