For people who watched Mosgiel's newest Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall go up in 11 days, Saturday was a chance to see just what the congregation was able to accomplish in such a short time.
The hall, on Factory Rd, went from a 417sq m concrete slab on March 23 to a finished facility, minus the chairs, by lunch-time on April 2, all thanks to 40 teams of voluntary workers, congregation member Dave Hayward said.
"It's generated so much buzz in the community, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to come and see through it.
"People are amazed that it's finished inside," he said.
The facility features an 180-seat auditorium, a parents' room with kitchenette, a soundproofed 35-seat discussion room and a small library.
While there were delays in getting the seating, it did not stop the about 100-member congregation holding its first meeting in the hall on April 3; they just brought their own seats, he said.
The new hall replaces the congregation's former hall, at 49 Factory Rd, built in the 1960s, which it had outgrown, he said.
"This is a lot wider and more comfortable."
