No charges will be laid against a 52-year-old Dunedin man who allowed a 10-year-old to drive his car.
However, the matter has been referred to Child, Youth and Family (CYF).
Dunedin road policing manager Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall said police felt the original fine of $400 was the ''appropriate resolution'' to the matter.
The 10-year-old girl's erratic driving of a Ford Falcon in Forbury Rd caught the attention of police about 9pm on Saturday.
When police stopped the car, its owner was sitting in the front passenger seat and another 10-year-old girl was in a back seat. Both girls were known to the man, but unrelated.
Snr Sgt McDouall said the area commander had ''looked at it and he's happy with the ticket''.
Police would refer the matter to CYF, he said.
When asked why police would not be pursuing charges, when they had earlier indicated they might, he said: ''It was over very quickly - [it was] a storm in a teacup''.
CYF southern regional director Chris Harvey told the Otago Daily Times no formal referral from police had been received.
However, ''we understand they have no concerns for the girls' welfare that would be a matter for Child, Youth and Family'', he said.
No further comment was provided.
Snr Sgt McDouall would not be drawn on what charges were being investigated or why further action was dropped.
The man was issued a traffic infringement notice for aiding and abetting an unlicensed driver.
