Parked utility could be clue in three sex attacks

Sightings of a dark-coloured, late model four-wheel-drive ute, possibly a Ford Ranger, parked in Albany St, Dunedin, could provide a vital clue for police investigating sexual assaults in the area.

Police said the vehicle was parked in Albany St, across the street from Liquorland Leith St, about 9.20pm on Friday, March 17, the night of the assaults.

"This area of town would have been busy on a Friday night,'' field crime manager Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis said.

"We know someone will have seen this vehicle and be able to help us locate the occupants so we can make contact with them.''

Three women were sexually assaulted in two incidents a little over an hour apart.

Police said two 19-year-old women were in the same room of a Dundas St flat when a young man walked in and sexually assaulted them, between 8pm and 8.30pm that Friday.

He was wearing shorts and a T-shirt and was described as being in his 20s, with "short dark hair and dark skin''.

The second incident occurred in Leith Walk as a woman was walking towards University College about 9.15pm-9.30pm. She was pushed over and sexually assaulted by a Caucasian man in his early 20s.

Her attacker was described as being of medium build, 180cm tall, with "long, dark, curly hair that was tied back''.

Police have been keeping an open mind about whether the attacks are linked.

Police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers 0800 555-111.
