Pipe band concert to help St John

The RSA Taieri Pipe Band will exchange its music for charity in a fundraising concert this weekend.

All funds from the concert will help buy a training simulator for St John Taieri.

RSA Taieri Pipe Band president Bill Cadzow said they asked St John Taieri where the money raised would be best spent and they recommended the simulator.

The idea for the fundraising concert arose when an Invercargill pipe band was fundraising for the St John taxi that runs between Invercargill and Dunedin.

Mr Cadzow said they made an agreement to fundraise for the same cause in Dunedin.

Two pipe bands from Invercargill, the Clan Nan Gael Pipe Band and the Rhythm'n Brass Band, will perform individually, and come together to play at the end of the night.

RSA Taieri Pipe Band pipe major Peggy Hoatten said they would be playing normal pipe tunes on the night, along with the brass ensemble performance.

She said the money raised by the concert was going towards a great cause.

''St John do a wonderful job.''

• The St John fundraising concert is at 7.30pm at the Coronation Hall in Mosgiel on October 11. Entry is $5 per person.
