Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were called to Crammond Avenue, Corstorphine, about 10.30pm yesterday after receiving reports regarding a man in an alleyway next to residential properties.
The 37-year-old man allegedly verbally threatened to kill property owners, attempted to climb over fences and was throwing items at properties.
When police arrived, the man was ‘‘yelling aggressively’’ in the alleyway, Sgt Lee said.
‘‘As the attending officers approached him, he threw tent poles at them and threatened to kill them.
‘‘Police deployed their taser and the male was bitten on the calf by a police dog before being successfully arrested.’’
The man was charged with threats to kill, threatening act towards person in dwelling/house and resisting police.
He was held in police custody to appear in the Dunedin District Court today with his bail opposed, Sgt Lee said.
