Dunedin police are appealing to the public for any information following a fatal crash on State Highway 1 near Allanton.

One person died and two others were injured in the collision on East Taieri-Allanton Rd at the intersection with Law Rd last night.

The two-vehicle crash was reported just before 5.40pm, police said.

In a statement this afternoon, Senior Sergeant Nathan White, of Southern District Police, thanked members of the public who stopped to help those involved before emergency services arrived.

"We’d like to hear from anyone we haven’t yet spoken to who may have witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage of the incident.

"If you can help, please use our 105 service and quote reference number 260530/6167."

A spokesman for the NZ Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi said the road reopened at 1.30am today.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said crews from Mosgiel, Lookout Point and Dunedin were sent to the scene.

Hato Hone St John also attended.
