Police called out after firearm report

Police were called to a Northeast Valley property this morning after receiving a report of a man with a firearm.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said the man was in his own property and was carrying a low-powered slug rifle.

"He wasn't doing anything he shouldn't have been," Snr Sgt Benn said.

The man was given some advice from police about being vigilant when carrying firearms, he said.

"In a place view of other properties and public places, people are reporting these sorts of things."
