Parties expecting to be heard in the Environment Court over the legality of the Saddle Hill quarry have agreed to a postponement, following the sudden death of the daughter of one of the lawyers.
The Dunedin City Council had sought a court hearing last year to determine the legal rights of quarry owners Saddle Views Estate Ltd to continue quarrying on Saddle Hill. The hearing was due to begin on Monday, but was instead postponed at the last minute.
Council mediator Cr Colin Weatherall said the decision followed the sudden death of the 21-year-old daughter of solicitor Trevor Sheils, who was to appear for the quarry's owners.
It was expected the hearing would now begin in August, but a new date was yet to be set, he said.
