Replanting of burnt estuary area planned

The replanting of an area of burnt vegetation at Kaikorai Estuary will begin in winter next year, Saddle Hill Community Board chairman Scott Weatherall says.

A blaze near Otago Pistol Club's shooting range spread to vegetation last month.

At the estuary, a dispenser with bags to collect dog faeces had been installed and the board was chasing contractors to install the rubbish bin.

The board paid for the bin and the Dunedin City Council would pay for the ongoing costs of the bin, he said.

The Walton Park upgrade had momentarily stalled when a digger creating a recreational track became stuck.

''They are waiting for the weather to clear and the grounds to dry up.''

The Brighton/Ocean View Playcentre and Green Island Toy Centre had closed, he said.

''Sadly, both those groups had tried really hard to keep momentum going but it has not happened, so they have elected to close the door.''

• The board meeting next Thursday will be at the rebuilt Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club.
