A Sunday walk up Saddle Hill across land not usually accessible to the public has been organised to raise funds for the planned Taieri Aquatic Centre.
The Mosgiel Rotary Club is organising the event, which will run from 9am to 4pm on February 12.
Participants must pre-register and book a start time for the day. Each hour is limited to a maximum of 200 walkers. Runners will start between 9am and 9.30am. From 10am, the climb must be walked.
Mosgiel Rotary Club member Colin Mackintosh said those who made their way to the top of Saddle Hill would be rewarded with great views.
"It's an amazing view from up there. It's just a stunning view - on one side looking up and down the coast, on the other side right from the bottom of the Taieri Plain right around viewing all the landmarks right through up to Dunedin and the peninsula.
"From a little bit of hard work, it will be a very rewarding trip up there.''
The event might become an annual affair in which runners could record their times and try to beat them at future events, Mr Mackintosh said.
Fast runners should finish in less than 15 minutes and slower runners in 20 to 30 minutes, he said.
The aquatic centre project would require much local support so the walk would be a "a good way to kick it off'', Mr Mackintosh said.
All funds will go to the Taieri Community Facilities Trust, the community body advocating for the development of the aquatic centre.
