The first steps towards raising money for the New Zealand Scout Jamboree at the end of the year began at the weekend for a group of Opoho and St Kilda Scouts.
The jamboree was taking place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton in late December, but before that each Scout had to raise about $3000, leader Ashlee Reader said.
On Saturday, they hosted the first of their fundraising events at the St Kilda Scout Hall, where there were stalls selling everything from clothes to toys to succulents.
"It’s been a few months in the making," Ms Reader said.
"We’re hoping to do more of these markets as the year goes on. A lot of the Scouts made their own stuff to sell."
