Two protests unexpectedly met in the Octagon, in Dunedin, at noon on Saturday. Falun Gong members were sharing their experiences and protesting against the actions of the Chinese Communist Party when a march protesting the Covid-19 restrictions arrived in the Octagon.

The Falun Gong organisers quickly changed the programme and had a speaker discuss the issues they were protesting while the other group circled around.

The Covid-19 protesters respectfully allowed the Falun Gong to continue and clapped them off before returning to protesting their own cause.

The Falun Gong group began their trek down Dunedin’s main street holding a large banner and were accompanied by a marching band.

A supporter said the group was travelling around the country sharing its message.

The tour, which began in Christchurch on Thursday, has included Canterbury, Otago and Southland and ends in Queenstown today.
