Sport Otago is putting the fun in fun run with a colourful twist.

The third Night `n Day Rainbow Confectionery Rainbow Run returns to Dunedin on Sunday, September 25.

Based on the colourful celebration of the Indian Holi Festival, the Rainbow Run involves participants running and walking a 5km course around Logan Park, and being brightly decorated as they go. The colour is provided by a food grade, non-toxic powder, which washes away easily.

``What greater way to celebrate the beginning of spring with friends, family, and work colleagues than by getting completely covered in bright colours,'' Sport Otago business development manager Aaron Joy said.

Similar events were held throughout the world in cities such as Paris and Vancouver, and this would be a chance for Dunedin people to take part in their own town.

Runners and walkers will receive a fresh layer of coloured powder at intervals around the course, and by the end of the event, they will be a picture of blue, yellow, green, purple and pink. Organised by Sport Otago, this year there will also be Rainbow Runs held for the first time in Alexandra and Balclutha, and for the fourth year running, Oamaru.

The event is suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Rainbow Run will be held at Logan Park on Sunday, September 25, starting at 11am. Ticketing details are available at www.sportotago.co.nz and numbers are limited.
