Two of the doomed Port Chalmers geese are still on the loose following the deaths of six others at the hands of Dunedin City Council contractors.
DCC parks operations manager Hamish Black said contractors had started the cull but it would not be completed until next week as the timing and location of the birds needed to be right in order to shoot them.
Mr Black was not aware of members of the public trying to disrupt the cull and said only the conditions had affected the shoot.
"They haven't always been in an ideal spot for the culling,'' Mr Black said.
"The contractor has to be mindful of them being in a certain spot.''
Extermination company DM Holdings' owner Dave McPhee was not prepared to comment on the job so far and asked the Otago Daily Times to contact him at a later date.
Volunteers had unsuccessfully tried to capture the geese and relocate them to a Taieri farm after Watson Park users complained about their toilet habits.
The pesky gaggle regularly left piles of poo on the park forcing sports games and practices to be cancelled.
Other solutions were mooted but the council stated they needed a quick fix to the problem.
