Tickets for a second Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Dunedin show go on sale on Friday, after nearly 20,000 tickets for the first show sold within a week.
TEG Sport promoter representative Nathan Brown said the "mind-blowing" response from Dunedin and Otago had caught organisers by surprise.
Come September, the event is making its only South Island stop at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin following shows in North America, Europe and Australia.
Mr Brown said the response was a credit to the city and Dunedin Venues, which had "got right behind" the event.
"It was the venue who aggressively chased us for this show and they stole it from under the nose of Christchurch."
Dunedin’s roofed stadium provided an outdoor experience with a large track while providing a measure of security against any poor weather, Mr Brown said.
"There is just nothing better than watching parents watch their kids just having the best time of their lives at this show."
He had "no doubt" the tickets sales would draw promoters’ eyes to Dunedin.
"We're always looking for new markets.
"Seeing the reception Dunedin and the Otago region have given this show, I think it bodes well for more acts and bigger acts to follow."

About 20,000 seats were available per show and, while he could not provide the exact number of tickets sold, the first show was on track to sell out.
Sales had been amazing because "it's not just football, it's not just a concert, it's something a bit different".
While sports events remained the stadium’s core business, Mr Doorn said the trucks’ early success opened the door to "outside of the square" events.
"So you can actually reimagine how people can use the stadium and hopefully ... allow for a whole variety of just different types of acts and events."
Dunedin 5-year-old Nixon Eustace was beyond excited for the monster trucks — "my favourite thing"— to show up in September.
Mum Sarah Eustace said Nixon was "everything monster truck" — toys, clothes, posters, even his toothbrush —
"just mental over monster trucks".
She was pleased the show was coming to Dunedin, but said the family would have travelled anywhere in New Zealand to see it.
The shows are on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21.
