Motorists in Dunedin might have been startled by the sight and sound of a fire-breathing 1934 Sentinel S4 steam truck as it chugged down Cumberland St yesterday.

The rare coal-fired, steam-powered, shaft-driven four-wheeler with a top speed of 70kmh, was shipped from England to Christchurch for the recent Wheels at Wānaka Show at Easter weekend.

Since then, it has been touring the southern regions and is now on its way back up north.
