Submissions to close

People have only a few days to have their say on what their Otago Regional Council rates are spent on during the next 10 years.

Submissions to the council's long-term plan 2012-22 will close on Friday.

The draft plan outlines planned projects and operations for the next 10 years as well as performance targets and financial information about how these proposed projects would be funded.

They included work on flood and drainage schemes, establishment of an irrigation infrastructure development grants fund, Milton flood protection, a 5% increase in Dunedin bus fares from July 1 and investigations for a new regional council office and temporary office space.

Chairman Stephen Woodhead said predicted fluctuations in general rates over the decade vary between an increase of about 3% to a decrease of 4.25%, with a general rates increase of 3.9% this year.
