A suspicious fire at a Dunedin high school today is being investigated.
A Fire Service spokesman said firefighters from St Kilda Station and Lookout Point Station were called to Queen's High School before 2pm.
A Fire Investigator examined the classroom this afternoon, he said.
Principal Di Carter said the "suspicious fire'' was in a plastic bin used for paper recycling.
The fire caused smoke damage to the classroom, which was used to teach year 10 pupils.
The pupils were at a school camp so the classroom was not needed for the rest of the year, she said.
The fire "was under investigation'' and no-one had been identified as the fire starter, she said.
If fire had not been discovered and extinguished by teachers in the "wooden'' school, the damage could have been more extensive.
No-one was injured in the fire and the school resumed as normal after the pupils were evacuated for about 10 minutes, she said.
