Contractors will work around the clock to repair a section of Mosgiel highway from next week.
Agency spokesman Andy Knackstedt said about six weeks of repairs to State Highway 87 was scheduled to start on Monday.
Contractors would work 24 hours a day, seven days a week until about March 15.
The work would affect all traffic lanes and roadside parking areas in Gordon Rd from Cargill St to the west of the Hagart Alexander Dr intersection.
Temporary speed restrictions, uneven road surfaces, side-street closures, temporary driveway restrictions, noise and potential vibrations should be expected.
Traffic would be restricted to one lane and priority would be given to traffic travelling to Mosgiel from Dunedin.
As a result, people heading to Dunedin and wanting to minimise travel delays were encouraged to use Riccarton Rd and Three Mile Hill.
Bus services travelling in the area could experience longer journey times.
A detour would use Church St, he said.
The work would impact on existing bus stops and temporary bus stops would be installed where necessary.
Heavy vehicles would be required to detour around Mosgiel unless servicing shops within the active work area.
Trailer units would not be permitted, even on heavy vehicles servicing shops, Mr Knackstedt said.
Heavy vehicles - 50MAX trucks and lighter - could use Riccarton Rd.
All other heavy vehicles would need to use SH86 in Allanton.
